Philips Medical Systems has installed its Intera 3-tesla MR scanner at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore. The scanner, the first Intera 3-tesla unit installed in the U.S., will be used for investigational research at the institute's F.M. Kirby Research Center for Functional Brain Imaging, according to the Dutch vendor.
Researchers and clinicians at Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will use the system to examine neurological diseases such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Rett syndrome, neurofibromatosis, brain cancer, autism, and trauma, according to Philips.
Funding for the scanner was contributed by the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
