MRI developer Magna-Lab of Lynnfield, MA, and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston have concluded an intravascular MRI catheter coil study on animal subjects. The study set out to demonstrate the benefits of using Magna-Lab’s coil to obtain in vivo high-resolution MR images of coronary-sized vessel walls. The study also focused on viewing the deployment of arterial stents in vivo and the response of tissue in arterial walls to stents.
The intravascular coil provided high-resolution images of coronary-sized arteries of the subjects, according to principal investigator Dr. Farouc Jaffer of MGH. In addition, Jaffer believes that intravascular MRI using the catheter-coil could facilitate optimal stent deployment in patients.
