MRI vendor Fonar said its Stand-Up MRI scanner was used to diagnose pelvic floor prolapse. The patient, who was imaged with the Fonar Stand-Up MRI system in Melville, NY, was a multiparous, postmenopausal woman with a recurrent, chronic urinary tract infection.
Scanning showed that the patient's bladder and uterus fell well below the pubo-coccygeal line, the standard radiologic landmark denoting the line above which these organs are normally situated in the standing young adult, said president and founder Raymond Damadian.
There was even further descent of the bladder and uterus when the patient was scanned upright with pelvic straining. Bladder prolapse was visible only during upright scanning, Damadian said.
