Cook launches MRI-safe embolization coil

Interventional technology developer Cook of Bloomington, IN, is introducing an MR-compatible microcoil for embolization at this week's Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) meeting in Toronto.

The company's MReye embolization coils reduce imaging artifacts by up to 1,900% compared with stainless steel coils, and are designed to enable clinicians to use the devices in patients who might require an MRI scan in the future, Cook said. They are compatible with scanners with field strengths of up to 3-tesla, and are available in various 0.035- and 0.038-inch configurations.
