Dear MRI Insider,

These days, asking people if they can multitask is akin to asking them if they know how to order a latte, eat an energy bar, and answer their iPhone simultaneously. By the same token, radiation oncologists are specialists who need to be particularly adept at multitasking -- and they require equipment that can do the same. A hybrid MRI and radiotherapy machine might be just the ticket.

In our Insider Exclusive article, Canadian physicists discuss their new system that couples a linear accelerator with an MR scanner to provide real-time tracking of tumors and healthy tissues during irradiation. To learn more about this exciting technology, click here.

In other MRI news, we have the results from several interesting neuroscience studies. The first demonstrates which area of our brain is active when we are feeling threatened. In another paper, British researchers also used functional MRI to demonstrate near-normal brain activity in a patient believed to be in a vegetative state. Finally, an MRI case study out of Switzerland indicated that "hearing voices" may not be limited to patients with psychosis (phew!).

Finally, click on the MRI Digital Community home page and you'll find articles from our friends at MRIPlanning.com on upping efficiency in the MR suite, as well as the Joint Commission and safety issues.
