Philips Ingenia ranks top in KLAS MRI report

Philips Healthcare's 1.5-tesla Ingenia MRI system has earned top ranking in a new KLAS report, "MRI 2012: Broadening Your Field of View."

The introduction of new MRI technology has changed the face of the market over the last year, and the differences are in the details, the market research firm noted.

Philips, who was in last place in the 2011 KLAS MRI report with the Achieva 1.5-tesla MRI system, takes first place this year with its newly ranked Ingenia 1.5-tesla MRI unit. The report praised the new coil system, which is not channel-specific and allows providers to upgrade coils more easily.

Patient comfort also was a top factor for providers that participated in this study. Faster scan speeds (31%) were the No. 1 feature that improved patient satisfaction, followed by quieter scanners (22%), better lighting (19%), airflow improvements (16%), and shorter bore length (16%).

The KLAS study included five MRI vendors: GE Healthcare, Hitachi Medical Systems, Philips Healthcare, Siemens Healthcare, and Toshiba Medical Systems.
