MRI Interventions said that its ClearPoint MRI-guided neuro intervention system has been used by physicians in laser ablation procedures to treat epilepsy and brain tumors.
Dr. Hooman Azmi at Hackensack University Medical Center was the first surgeon to couple the ClearPoint system with laser ablation technology in connection with the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme, while Dr. Robert Gross at Emory University Hospital was the first to use ClearPoint and laser ablation to treat patients with epilepsy, according to MRI Interventions.
Both Azmi and Gross had originally purchased ClearPoint to assist with the placement of deep brain stimulation electrodes, the company said.
