A truck driver hauling an MRI building to a hospital in rural Maine got a surprise when his vehicle got stuck and delayed traffic for hours -- he received plaudits and donuts from locals, according to published reports.

Mike Saxton was the driver of a "superload" vehicle transporting a 100-ton MRI building from Wisconsin to Bar Harbor, where it was to be installed to replace a temporary MRI trailer at Mount Desert Island Hospital, according to a July 16 article in Bangor Daily News.

The vehicle had difficulty negotiating the narrow roads in the area, and it got stuck at least twice, including at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge -- an especially challenging situation given the summer traffic in the area, according to the story.

But Saxton was praised for his cool-headed handling of the job, and he was greeted with support rather than frustration. During one traffic jam, a local woman gave him donuts.

He eventually reached the hospital two weeks after starting his journey in Wisconsin -- and was treated to a lobster dinner and free hotel room by the hospital, according to the story.
