Proton therapy technology developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has signed a contract with a hospital in Argentina for the installation of a proton therapy center.
The installation at the Instituto de Oncología Ángel H. Roffo hospital in Buenos Aires is the first in Latin America, IBA said. It will include the company's Proteus Plus three-gantry proton therapy system with pencil-beam scanning capability. Equipment and services for the contract are valued between $39.3 million and $44.9 million.
The contract is part of a national plan for radiation therapy supported by the Argentine Ministry of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Services; the Ministry of Health; and the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA). The center is expected to treat its first patient at the end of 2018, according to IBA.
