Seven centers in the U.S. will be the first in the nation to receive radiation oncology firm Elekta's Leksell Gamma Knife Icon device for the treatment of neurological disorders.
Leksell Gamma Knife Icon features integrated stereotactic conebeam CT imaging and online adaptive dose evaluation and planning. The system enables frameless and frame-based treatments of any target in the brain -- from refractory essential tremor and complex vascular malformations to multiple metastases, according to Elekta.
The following institutions are implementing Icon:
- Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta
- University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA
- Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY
- MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston
- Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida in Miami
- University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh
- Gamma Knife of Spokane in Spokane, WA
Gamma Knife Icon is the sixth generation of the company's Leksell Gamma Knife system. Elekta will install the systems in early 2016.
