SonoSite posts record Q1 revenues

Strong performance in its U.S. business contributed to a 27% revenue gain for compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite in its first quarter. Net income was down slightly, however.

For the period (end-March 31), SonoSite had revenue of $71.1 million, up from $56 million in the first quarter of 2010. The firm's recent acquisition of VisualSonics contributed $8.2 million in additional revenues during the quarter.

The company said that its U.S. sector produced a 21% increase in revenue, while the U.S. enterprise channel was up 71%. The firm's international business also performed well despite facing economic uncertainties and challenges in Japan, said President and CEO Kevin Goodwin.

SonoSite had first-quarter net income of $1 million, down from earnings of $1.4 million a year ago.

With its belief in the long-term opportunity for point-of-care visualization, the company said it is planning investment opportunities to significantly increase demand generation and the profile of the company, deliver a wave of new technology innovations, and continue to expand its geographic reach.
