Philips Healthcare has signed a distribution agreement with SonoCine covering that company's automated whole-breast ultrasound (AWBUS) system.
The agreement gives Philips rights to sell SonoCine's technology with its Epiq and iU22 ultrasound scanners as an adjunct to conventional mammography. The SonoCine system consists of an ultrasound probe carrier and positioning gantry with angle sensors, accelerometers, and gyroscopic motion control. The system is able to record thousands of equally spaced images of the entire breast, which can then be reviewed to detect suspicious lesions.
Combining SonoCine's AWBUS technology with Philips' ultrasound systems is intended to improve the early detection of breast lesions, particularly in women with dense breast tissue, according to Philips.
