Butterfly Network recently launched its AI-powered Auto B-line Counter for lung imaging in the U.S., about three months after the company received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the tool.
The tool was developed and trained using over 3.5 million ultrasound cines, and it can produce a B-line count from a six-second ultrasound clip, according to the firm. The algorithm behind the tool uses an instant percent counting method that, along with counting discrete B-lines, assigns numbers to confluent B-lines by the percentage of rib space occupied.
