Fujifilm Medical Systems USA of Stamford, CT, has submitted the final module in its premarket approval (PMA) application covering software for conducting computed radiography-based mammography studies.
The company's Fuji Computed Radiography for Mammography (FCRm) software enables the firm's existing technologist console and ClearView-CS multiplate CR reader to process digital mammography exams. The console and reader are already cleared for general radiography applications.
ClearView-CS, which uses Fuji's patented dual-side reading technology and 50-micron pixel sampling, is in use at 40 sites in the U.S. When approved for mammography, ClearView-CS will be used in conjunction with advanced image processing tools such as Fuji's Pattern Enhancement processing for Mammography (PEM) (currently a work-in-progress), and will be known as ClearView-CSm, according to the company.
Also in CR developments, Fuji has improved the throughput of its FCR XG5000 CR reader by 20%. By using a fast-scan reading mode, the system can process 14 x 14-inch and 14 x 17-inch exams at rates of 140 and 122 images per hour, respectively.
In other Fuji news, the company said it has received its first U.S. patent for Synapse PACS technology. The patent covers Subscription, a technology that allows Synapse users to implement flexible workflows and optimize the use of network bandwidth. Subscription users "subscribe" to a Synapse folder and receive notification when new content, such as unread studies, arrives in that folder. This enables users to selectively bring the content they need directly to their workstations, according to the company.
Finally, the company announced that Richard D. Young, CR Coordinator at WestCare Health System in Sylva, NC, received the company's $2,000 PACS administration scholarship. Young received registration for the Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) meeting and the preconference PACS administration overview course, as well as a new SCAR membership and airfare and hotel for the meeting.
