Saudi Arabia opens breast cancer facility

King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, plans to establish the first center of excellence in the region for breast cancer, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia announced.

The center will offer mammograms and participate in research with international facilities in Geneva and the U.S. It will be operated by Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, a breast cancer survivor and member of the Saudi Cancer Society, the Royal Embassy said.

The new facility is part of a national breast cancer awareness campaign, launched October 10 by Princess Hessah bint Trad Al-Shaalan, honorary president of the Zahra Breast Cancer Association and wife of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and Princess Rima bint Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, according to the Royal Embassy.
