Stratasys, Siemens Healthineers ink CT phantom partnership

3D printing technology firm Stratasys has inked an agreement with Siemens Healthineers to develop new state-of-the-art CT phantoms in a landmark research project.

The Israeli-based company specializing in polymer 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions will incorporate its PolyJet and RadioMatrix technology with Siemens’ advanced algorithms aimed at translating scanned patient images into specific material characteristics with radiopacity of human anatomy.

The goal of this joint project is to transform how phantoms can be used in the medical field and potentially to replace human cadavers with 3D-printed structures. The companies also hope to produce a body of research data that will provide insights into how to further develop CT system algorithms and discover new application areas.
