Advanced visualization software developer Imaging Biometrics has signed an exclusive global license agreement for tumor response evaluation software developed by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Imaging Biometrics gains the right to develop and commercialize technology that may lead to an automated way of more accurately evaluating a tumor's response to various treatment therapies, according to the Elm Grove, WI-based firm. The technology, developed by Jay Udupa, PhD, of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, "standardizes" images on a voxel-to-voxel basis to enable accurate comparison of images over time, Imaging Biometrics said.
The company believes the technology may make it unnecessary for radiologists to perform time-consuming manipulations to make image brightness levels more similar over time. And when automated, the technique may reliably remove subjective and intra- and interscanner variability when monitoring patients with tumors, Imaging Biometrics said.
