iCAD, R2 in patent dispute

Computer-aided detection (CAD) technology developer iCAD said it has received a letter from fellow CAD firm R2 Technology advising the Nashua, NH-based firm of its position that iCAD's Second Look product lines allegedly infringed on three U.S. patents licensed to R2.

These patents (6,266,435, 6,477,262 and 6,574,357) are continuations in part of the patents already licensed to iCAD by R2 under a September 2003 settlement agreement that resolved patent infringement litigation between the companies. iCAD president and CEO Scott Parr said that iCAD does not believe R2 has stated any valid claim against the firm, and that its patent position is strong.

In addition, Parr said that should R2 formally assert a claim of patent infringement and demand arbitration, iCAD may in turn assert broad patent infringement claims against R2.
