Imaging informatics software developer PenRad has unveiled PenAlert, an artificial intelligence-based software application for notifying patients of their radiology results.
PenAlert automates the patient notification process without affecting radiologist workflow, PenRad said. Using machine-learning technology to automate the patient notification process, PenAlert extracts key findings from the radiologist's narrative report and catalogs the exam and findings, according to the firm.
The software then compiles a patient exam letter that uses patient terminology to describe the findings and concerns, PenRad said. Normal results can also be communicated as well.
PenAlert also inserts contact information for referring physicians, subspecialty care specialists, as well as recommendations for future imaging, PenRad said. These reports are provided in the patient's preferred language and can be automatically delivered via email, mail, an existing patient portal, or the firm's PenXpress patient portal, according to the vendor.
Other PenAlert features include recall letters, management reports, and analytics for findings and outcomes, the company said.
