Heartlab debuts Ascentia cardio information system

Cardiac PACS firm Heartlab is previewing its new cardiovascular information system, Ascentia, at this week's American College of Cardiology (ACC) meeting in Orlando, FL.

The Westerly, RI-based vendor provides a package of multimodality image analysis tools, digital reporting, and secure portal access to patient records via Web-based technology. The Ascentia line includes:

Ascentia Portal, which delivers DICOM images to PCs on the Internet or intranet, with compression-on-demand of more than 10 different levels of lossless and lossy compression from original images in the archive.

Ascentia WorkStation, which enables access to images and review tools for multiple cardiology and vascular exams, with features such as bolus chase reconstruction and remasking.

Ascentia Results Management, which offers reporting that allows digital creation of reports while reviewing cases online.

The Ascentia Portal, WorkStation, and Results Management systems received FDA clearance in February.

Heartlab will also be showing as a work-in-progress its Ascentia HeartStation, which manages digital ECGs from any vendor's ECG equipment. Studies are stored, read, interpreted and archived as part of the electronic patient record.

In other news, the company announced it has signed an agreement with ultrasound developer TomTec Imaging Systems of Unterschleissheim, Germany. Heartlab will distribute TomTec's 4D Cardio-View software for 3D/4D analysis, reconstruction, rendering, and advanced quantification within its Ascentia Workstation.

Heartlab also announced that the University of Virginia Health System has selected the Encompass Cardiac Network PACS for its Heart and Vascular Center.
