Barco adds display line, lands new contracts

Image display and advanced visualization firm Barco has expanded its portfolio of medical displays with a new line of clinical review displays, the MDRC series. The new displays will be featured at this week's RSNA 2008 show in Chicago.

Barco launched the MDRC series at RSNA 2008.

The MDRC series includes a 20-inch color screen with 2-megpixel resolution (MDRC-2120) and a 19-inch color version with 1-megpixel resolution (MDRC-1119), which can be fitted with an optional touchscreen interface. Both models are equipped with professional-quality LDCs, and an integrated DICOM part 14 look-up table (10-bit) ensures accurate grayscales and worry-free 'DICOM-out-of-the-box' imaging, according to Barco.

The displays feature Backlight Output Stabilization (BLOS) technology, MediCal QAWeb software for DICOM calibration and quality assurance, and a power save mode that automatically switches off the display when not being used.

Both the 19-inch MDRC-1119 and the 20-inch MDRC-2120 are immediately available for commercial distribution, according to Barco of Kortrijk, Belgium.

At the RSNA 2008 show, Barco is also highlighting new image processing products, including a three-in-one general purpose GPU-platform for medical imaging applications and the latest version of its MICB-1340 image compression board, designed for network-based medical imaging applications.

In other news, Barco announced it has been selected to provide high-grade mammography display systems for a country-wide screening project in the Netherlands. The DigiBOB screening project was commissioned in 2006 by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in the Netherlands (RIVM) to digitize the population screening for preventing breast cancer.

The project will deploy 63 mobile screening units equipped with Barco Coronis 2MP display systems and 15 fixed imaging centers across the country. When fully deployed in 2010, the DigiBOB system will be capable of screening 900,000 women between the age of 50 and 75 every year, according to Barco.

In addition, Barco has been chosen by GE Healthcare, Australia, to provide a large number of multimodality Coronis Fusion 6MP DL 30-inch display systems and several other PACS displays to five hospitals in New South Wales, Australia.

Barco has also been selected to supply the Coronis Fusion 6MP DL display system to Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. Barco has partnered with Fujifilm Medical Systems to integrate the displays into the Synapse PACS environment utilized throughout the hospital.
