Cloud-based software developer Ambra Health is highlighting a number of projects with radiology humanitarian organization Rad-Aid.
Ambra said it has contributed expertise, software, and technical support to the Rad-Aid Friendship Cloud, which provides low-resource hospitals with onsite servers and storage, as well as cloud-based backup. Rad-Aid collaborated with Ambra and other partners to develop the Friendship Cloud and integrated onsite radiology data management system with PACS for resource-poor hospitals. The organization uses Ambra's Cloud PACS software to provide radiology viewing, archiving, and exchange, according to the company.
Rad-Aid and Ambra have collaborated to install IT platforms at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria, and at Lao Friends Hospital for Children in Luang Prabang, Laos, as well as Georgetown Public Hospital, Bartica Hospital, and New Amsterdam Hospital in Guyana. So far, Ambra and Rad-Aid Friendship Cloud have archived approximately 125,000 radiology cases in Guyana, 25,000 pediatric exams in Laos, and 10,000 radiologic studies in Nigeria, according to the vendor.
Ambra noted that Rad-Aid is also supporting radiology residencies and training centers. In Guyana, Friendship Cloud also serves as a platform to enable radiology educators in high-income countries to help residents, technologists, and staff radiologists in low- and middle-income countries. That capability has been particularly impactful during the COVID-19 pandemic, when international travel restrictions limited onsite work, Ambra said.
