Analogic reported fiscal second-quarter revenues of $84.3 million, a 9% decrease from the $92.6 million reported in the second quarter a year ago. For the period (end-January 31), the Peabody, MA-based firm posted a net loss of $3.8 million, compared with net income of $5 million in the second quarter of 2004.
The firm said that sales of its clinical ultrasound systems, data acquisition systems for CT, and MRI power systems surpassed the prior year's second quarter. However, sales of cardiac information management systems, patient monitors, and digital radiography detector plates and systems declined from a strong performance a year earlier.
Analogic also pointed to an increase in operating costs for the quarter due to its continuing investment in research and development. It said the investment required to develop a new generation of selenium technology for digital radiography has been greater than anticipated. In addition, the company said it has accelerated development of a new generation of medical CT systems.
