Dear Business & Industry Insider,
At first glance, ultrasound might not seem to have much in common with the oil and gas industry. But a company based in Canada's western oil patch region thinks there are some important similarities, and has developed a new breast ultrasound technology based on principles developed for geophysical exploration.
InnerVision Medical Technologies hopes its flash ultrasound will result in a quantum leap in ultrasound resolution that will propel the modality into new applications. Due to flash ultrasound's origins in technology used to detect oil fields through bedrock, it holds promise for the visualization of hard structures such as bone and microcalcifications in breast tissue.
InnerVision also has a novel concept for image acquisition and processing, with the firm planning to roll out less expensive data acquisitions systems that are hooked into a powerful central processing computer.
