An 11% increase in equipment orders in North America helped Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, grow sales and income from operations in the company's second quarter (end-June 30).
Second-quarter sales increased 4% to 2.068 billion euros ($2.69 billion U.S.), compared with 1.872 billion euros ($2.43 billion U.S.) in the second quarter of 2009. Earnings before interest and taxes advanced to 148 million euros ($192.4 million U.S.), compared with 88 million euros ($114.4 million U.S.) in the same quarter of 2009.
For the six-month period, sales increased 7% to 3.889 billion euros ($5.05 billion U.S.), compared with 3.616 billion euros ($4.69 billion U.S.) in the same period of 2009. Income from operations rose to 251 million euros ($326.3 million U.S.), compared with 89 million euros ($115.7 million U.S.) in the same period a year ago.
