Medical device company Leica Biosystems has launched a new specimen container that enables clinicians to transport breast tissue samples from the radiology suite to the pathology lab without the need for additional handling.
The MammoPort container works in conjunction with Leica Biosystems' Mammotome revolve breast biopsy device to standardize the process of transferring breast tissue for biopsy. Mammotome revolve automatically situates extracted breast tissue onto a tissue tray, which a radiologic technologist can insert into the MammoPort container. From there, the technologist can send the sample for imaging and deliver it to the pathology lab for processing.
This automated tissue placement helps eliminate unnecessary tissue manipulation and calcification separation by technologists -- maintaining tissue orientation, size, and integrity, according to Leica Biosystems.
