Penn. begins x-ray machine amnesty program

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced a three-month amnesty program aimed at identifying unregistered x-ray machines and bringing operators into compliance.

In Pennsylvania, healthcare providers with radiation-emitting equipment are required to register their machines with the DEP and pay equipment-registration and inspection fees, which go toward Bureau of Radiation Protection operations, the DEP said.

The amnesty period, which will run from June 1 to August 31, will allow unregistered medical providers to comply with DEP regulations and be absolved of any potential civil penalties related to registration. They will be required to pay all delinquent and current fees, however.
