Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Radiologists working in two regions of the southern U.S. enjoy the highest average salaries in the country, according to results from the latest round of AuntMinnie’s CompHealth SalaryScan survey.
West South Central zone radiologists reported the highest average base salary in the U.S., with an average of $348,591. The U.S. South Atlantic region came in second, with an average base salary of $322,687. But all was not rosy in Dixie. One southern area, the U.S. East South Central region, reported the lowest average base salary in the nation.
The SalaryScan data are the result of a comprehensive employment compensation survey conducted in July and August 2003. Over 3,600 radiology professionals from around the world participated, with 15 job titles covered.
The survey also found regional differences in compensation for radiologic technologists. The U.S. Pacific zone was most lucrative for RTs, thanks to an average base salary in the area of $55,583. RTs in the U.S. New England region were also well compensated, with an average base salary of $55,187. As with radiologists, RTs in the U.S. East South Central zone brought up the rear, with an average base salary of $45,293.
