Ultrasonic couplant and gel manufacturer Sonotech of Bellingham, WA, has launched an air bubble-free acoustic transmission gel, LithoClear, for dry-contact lithotripsy and extracorporeal shock-wave therapy.
Both procedures require the elimination of air bubbles in the acoustic interface as they can cause the shock waves to scatter or reflect, resulting in performance degradation of the procedure, according to the company. LithoClear matches the sound velocity of skin to within 0.5%, and minimizes refraction at the skin boundary, Sonotech said.
