Multimodality vendor Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, is planning to enter the market for full-field digital mammography (FFDM) systems with MammoDiagnost MD, a flat-panel digital mammography system.
Philips says the system will be a direct digital unit with a pixel size of 50 microns in screening mode and 25 microns in diagnostic mode. This compares to flat-panel FFDM system from other vendors that use pixel sizes as large as 100 microns.
MammoDiagnost MD will include very low dose technology and a large detector to accommodate every breast size. The system will be demonstrated as a work-in-progress.
In other Philips women's imaging news, the company in October 2004 signed a deal with mammography firm Fischer Imaging of Denver that allows Philips to sell, service, and support a specialized version of Fischer's digital mammography system integrated with Philips' Unique image processing and user interface.
