KEARNS, UT -- A study of bone mineral density in 59 Finnish female athletes by examined the osteogenic effects of their training vs. a group of sedentary females. The athletes had significantly higher bone mineral density values at the lumbar spine, femoral neck, distal femur, patella, proximal tibia, calcaneus, and distal radius than the sedentary reference group (Bone, September 1995, Vol. 17:3, pp. 197-203).
