Contrast developer Bracco Diagnostics is teaming up with Toshiba Medical Systems of Tokyo to support a clinical trial aimed at assessing the viability of using multislice CT as a primary diagnostic tool for detecting cardiovascular disease and disorders.
The study, named CorE 64 (coronary evaluation on 64) is a multicenter clinical study focusing on CT angiography using 64-slice CT technology. CTA will be used in the study to visualize soft plaque, measure coronary stenosis, plan quantitative treatment, and calculate plaque burden, according to Bracco of Princeton, NJ.
Bracco will be providing its Isovue contrast agent for use in conjunction with Toshiba CT technologies. Patient evaluations are expected to take place for several months, with initial study results planned for release in 2006.
