Toshiba America Medical Systems and the University of California, Irvine (UCI), School of Medicine have reached a joint agreement to collaborate on the development of a UCI/Toshiba CT Education and Research Center.
The training center, built on the UCI campus, will be open to UCI medical students and staff beginning next month, according to the Tustin, CA-based vendor. In addition, the center will be installing Toshiba's Aquilion 64 CFX system, as well as several workstations from Toshiba's advanced visualization partner Vital Images of Minnetonka, MN.
As part of the deal, UCI will develop a continuing medical education curriculum for cardiac CT imaging techniques employing Aquilion 64 CFX; the course will meet the American College of Cardiology's level I and II training standards, Toshiba said. Toshiba will also send a minimum of 34 physicians per year to UCI for training during each of the three years of the agreement.
Research will also be performed using Aquilion 64 CFX, Toshiba said.
