U.S. hospitals are allowing overseas-based radiologists to read preliminary studies for CT and MRI, but hospitals differ regionally in how they carry out the service, including decisions related to equipment, doctors, contracts, and service providers, according to a report from healthcare publishing and market research firm HCPro of Marblehead, MA.
A survey of chief financial officers (CFOs) and radiology administrators at 133 U.S. hospitals found that 25% of the facilities use overseas-based radiologists, while 14% said they are strongly considering outsourcing MRI and CT preliminary reads by 2007.
The report, The Overseas Radiology Guide, is available now, HCPro said.
