Schering, of Berlin, Germany, has announced separate agreements with Philips Medical Systems and Siemens Medical Solutions to advance all three companies' products and technologies.
Schering will work with Philips of Andover, MA, to research, develop, and market medical equipment and associated contrast agents for optical imaging. The companies equally will share research and development costs, as well as all future revenues from the contrast agents, medical equipment, and related services.
Schering also will team with Siemens to merge the Malvern, PA, company's dual-source CT technology with Schering's CT imaging agent Ultravist.
The dual-source CT system uses two x-ray tubes and two detectors at the same time for enhanced scanning and imaging. Ultravist is an intravascular, nonionic contrast medium suitable for all common x-ray examinations. The companies see the combination of the two products as beneficial to cardiac CT and CT in acute care.
