A Florida county seeks to offer free cardiac CT screening exams to thousands of residents, according to a report published February 15 in the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Broward County commissioner Mark Bogan has suggested a plan that would use $10 million from the county's budget -- funds generated by property taxes -- to pay for the initiative, the Sentinel said.

Under Bogan's plan, 5,000 people in each of the following categories would receive the free screenings: Black individuals of all ages, individuals between the ages of 45 and 65, and senior citizens. A fourth group of 5,000 people would receive breast, lung, colon, and prostate cancer screening exams, according to the report.
