Xenogen debuts 3D biophotonic imaging unit

Biophotonic imaging technology developer Xenogen has debuted IVIS 3D, a three-dimensional biophotonic imaging system designed to aid drug discovery and development.

The unit offers full 3D diffuse tomographic analysis of bioluminescent light sources in living animals, as well as 2D multiview fluorescent imaging capabilities, according to the Alameda, CA-based firm. It captures and processes numerous views/orientations taken around a mouse to provide researchers with better spatial representations of light sources, Xenogen said.

The surface topography measurements can be co-registered with other modalities such as CT and MRI, Xenogen said. Evaluation units of IVIS 3D have been installed at several institutions, including the Children's Hospital Los Angeles and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
