The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) said it has adopted current procedural terminology (CPT) codes for PET procedure reimbursement, essentially discontinuing previously used G series Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes.
The February 11 CMS action, published as Change Request 3726, will be implemented April 4 and be retroactive to January 30 this year, according to the agency. The action will activate three cardiac, two brain, and six tumor PET CPT codes for Medicare and other patients covered by CMS programs.
