The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia said it will be installing a 7-tesla whole-body MRI system.
Penn said it has been awarded a High-End Instrumentation grant of $2 million from the the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) toward the purchase of the system, which will be utilized by the institution's Metabolic Magnetic Resonance Research and Computing Center (MMRRCC), Center for Functional Neuroimaging (CfN), Center for Molecular Imaging (CEMI), and Laboratory for Structural NMR Imaging (LSNI).
The institution hopes to order the scanner by the end of the year, with installation of the magnet targeted for mid-2007.
