Contrast and virtual colonoscopy accessory developer E-Z-EM is launching its EmpowerMR injector system, the company's first product for the MRI market, at this week's RSNA meeting in Chicago.
EmpowerMR has the same easy-to-use interface and safety features as the company's Empower CT injectors. It uses a hydraulic control system that delivers consistent flow rates, and volumetric and pressure performance on demand, helping to improve productivity, according to E-Z-EM.
The system has no shielded iron motors, piezoelectric motors, and electrically active motor control circuitry adjacent to the scanner, significantly minimizing electrical interference with the scanner's magnetic field. The system is also connected to an electrical supply by a pass-through cable that does not require special shielding, the Lake Success, NY-based company said.
The system is being shown as a work-in-process at the 2006 RSNA meeting, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance is pending, according to the company.
