Siemens Medical Solutions has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Magnetom Essenza 1.5-tesla MRI scanner, adding a fourth 1.5-tesla scanner to the firm's portfolio.
The Malvern, PA-based vendor is highlighting the affordable nature of the system, which it estimates will cost as much as $500,000 less than other 1.5-tesla scanners. Essenza will be affordable for small hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers, Siemens said.
Essenza weighs approximately 3.5 tons and has an ultrashort bore length of 145 cm, Siemens said. It is also designed to require lower operating costs and features a zero helium boil-off magnet, according to the firm.
The system can support a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, oncology, and pediatric imaging, Siemens said. It also includes the vendor's V-engine gradients (30 mT/m), and Total imaging matrix (Tim) technology.
Essenza offers up to 25 integrated coil elements and eight independent radiofrequency channels, and also features Siemens' IsoCenter Matrix coil, according to the company.
