Imaging laboratory services provider Resonance Health launched a new imaging system based on MRI for liver patients at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases annual conference in Boston this week.
HepaFat-Scan, developed in collaboration with the University of Western Australia, uses MRI to measure the concentration of fat in the human liver. It reports the volumetric fraction of fat in the liver, which can be compared with volumetric biopsy fat fraction measurement and is more noninvasive than the traditional gold standard for clinical assessment of liver fat -- histopathological assessment.
The system, which has regulatory clearance in the U.S., Europe, and Australia, also just won the Western Australian Innovation of the Year award. The award is given by the Western Australian Department of Commerce.
