Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Why did action film star Chuck Norris and his wife Gena file a lawsuit last week against companies involved in the sale and distribution of gadolinium-based contrast agents? We offer new details on the litigation this week in an article in our MRI Community.
The story describes the symptoms Gena began experiencing after receiving MRI scans using gadolinium contrast, as well as the Norrises' search for relief through experimental treatments. It was an odyssey that took them as far as China, and they claim they have spent $2 million on Gena's care.
The Norrises have become the public face of an active patient advocacy movement that is already causing headaches for gadolinium manufacturers -- and this is just the beginning. Nodules on CT lung screens
Finding a suspicious nodule on a CT lung screening exam often triggers an extensive series of workup studies as clinicians try to determine whether it's cancerous or benign. But a new study indicates that the risk of a nodule being malignant could depend on when it's found.
Researchers analyzed data from the landmark National Lung Screening Trial and found that new nodules detected on follow-up screening rounds were more likely to be cancerous than those detected at baseline. The study also had other findings that challenge the conventional wisdom on nodule characterization.
