3D visualization firm Synaptive Medical is signaling its intent to enter the MRI hardware business, unveiling a dedicated head MRI system for use in emergency departments (EDs) at the point of care.
Called Evry, the scanner includes a superconducting magnet, gradients, and a custom head coil that enable it to be utilized within EDs, intensive care units, and other areas in the hospital that would benefit from early imaging of patients, according to the company. This fall, Synaptive will install Evry in Canada at the QEII Health Sciences Center in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as part of a four-year study in partnership with the Nova Scotia Health Authority to assess the impact of using MRI directly at the point of care in the ED.
The firm said it intends to pursue regulatory approval for Evry, as well as adoption by other healthcare facilities around the world.
