Philips Healthcare parent company Royal Philips has won a $15.4 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for the improvement of maternal care in low- and middle-income countries.
The company will use the funds to develop artificial intelligence-based applications for obstetric care, supporting care providers such as midwives. The applications will be used on Philips' handheld ultrasound scanner, Lumify.
Philips' efforts to improve maternal care are part of its work through its Philips Foundation, which already has similar initiatives in place in Kenya and the Republic of the Congo, according to the firm.
