Eastman Kodak Health Group of Rochester, NY, is demonstrating a range of new products for the mammography market at this week's Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) meeting, including a new PACS image review workstation optimized for mammography applications.
Called Kodak DirectView PACS System 5 for Mammography, the workstation enables users to integrate digital mammography exams into general PACS workflow by allowing the review, distribution, and storage of full-field digital mammography (FFDM) images. It also includes support for ultrasound, CT, MRI, and other digital modalities, Kodak said.
The workstation supports modalities from multiple vendors and includes two or four 5-megapixel monitors. It includes mammography-specific display protocols and tools designed to enhance radiologists' productivity, and an ergonomically designed workflow controller that can help reduce the incidence of repetitive stress injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, according to the company.
In addition, Kodak announced the integration of its film-based Kodak Mammography CAD System with mammography reporting and tracking software from PenRad Technologies of Plymouth, MN.
The company also announced works-in-progress developments for mammography, including an interface that allows the Kodak Mammography Workstation to display CAD markers from systems developed by other CAD vendors, and a mammography module for the vendor's RIS platform that optimizes mammography-specific reporting and tracking requirements.
Finally, Kodak is also using the SBI show to demonstrate the capture and display of 50-micron mammography images with its DirectView CR850 and CR 950 computed radiography systems outfitted with the company's DirectView CR Mammography Feature. The feature is being launched in international markets in June and is undergoing clinical testing in the U.S.
