Indianapolis-based interventional technology developer Suros Surgical Systems plans to highlight its Sapphire Automated Tissue Excision and Collection (ATEC) Breast Biopsy and Excision System.
Sapphire is an all-in-one console for interventional radiologists and breast surgeons, and allows doctors to perform vacuum-assisted breast biopsy with diagnostic imaging modalities like ultrasound and MRI using a single biopsy system.
Sapphire's ATEC technology includes petite, standard, and long needle options to accommodate a wide patient spectrum. It acquires tissue samples every 4.5 seconds, for a total tissue acquisition time of less than 30 seconds, according to company. The system's patent-pending Y-Valve allows doctors to deliver local anesthetic to the biopsy site without interruption throughout the whole procedure.
Sapphire has been cleared by the FDA for diagnostic breast biopsy and partial or complete removal of the visible evidence of benign breast tissue. More than 200 facilities already use the ATEC system for MRI-guided biopsy, according to Suros.
