Veteran journalist and news anchor Kate Couric gave an update to the public on her treatment for breast cancer in an October 3 interview with TODAY. She noted the importance that women are aware of their breast density status.
Couric, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in September, recently completed her lumpectomy and radiation therapy treatment regimen. She shared her experience with current hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, saying she is "feeling just fine."
Couric also thanked her radiologist for quickly acting upon noticing the breast cancer, as well as for treatment planning. Couric hosted TODAY from 1991 to 2006.
Couric has dense breasts, a risk factor tied to developing breast cancer. Part of her time on the TODAY interview was dedicated to raising awareness on breast density.
"You have to ask your radiologists, or your radiologist, ideally, should be telling you, 'You have dense breasts,' and then you often need secondary screening," Couric said.
