How to start medical 3D printing; MRI on the Road to RSNA; rebellion against MU

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Is your hospital thinking about starting a new 3D printing service? Don't make a move until you've had the chance to read a new article in our Advanced Visualization Community.

Many healthcare providers are finding 3D printing to be a disruptive technology that can help plan complex medical procedures, produce custom devices and instruments, and train future clinicians.

But 3D printing can also be intimidating due to its novelty and complexity. Fortunately, Todd Pietila of 3D software developer Materialise walks you through all the steps you need to know to set up a medical 3D printing service.

MRI on the Road to RSNA

Our Road to RSNA special preview of RSNA 2015 continues today with the publication of our overview of MRI-related sessions at the upcoming conference in Chicago.

This year's MRI sessions will be heavily weighted toward PET/MRI, which is coming into its own as a clinical tool. Advanced MRI techniques such as diffusion-tensor imaging will also be a priority in the halls of McCormick Place. Click here for more.

On Wednesday, we launched our preview of the ultrasound sessions, where important themes cover the use of ultrasound in women with dense breast tissue and the growing utility of ultrasound elastography for a variety of clinical uses. Get the rest of the preview by clicking here.

We'll bring you more Road to RSNA previews next week, so make sure to visit rsna.auntminnie.com for advance news on what's going to be hot in Chicago.

Rebellion against MU

Finally, cracks are beginning to show in the U.S. government's meaningful use (MU) campaign to encourage the adoption of healthcare IT. More than 100 medical societies this week submitted a letter to federal regulators, charging that stage 3 of the program is becoming unnecessarily burdensome. Physicians are increasingly frustrated with all the rules and regulations and may drop out of the program, the letter claims. Click here for more.
