Philips Healthcare parent Royal Philips Electronics and Japanese firm NEC have signed an agreement to jointly develop and market integrated digital pathology offerings.
The combined offering will be based on Philips' new pathology slide scanner and NEC's e-Pathologist computer-aided detection (CAD) system, which uses machine intelligence to detect tissue and cell features for identifying regions of interest and providing quantitative measurements of key structures, according to the firms.
Philips and NEC said they aim to produce initial results from their joint development efforts in 2011.
